Joy is timeless: Dino’s BMW 520 E12 1977 on BBS RS

You have your regular classic BMW enthusiasts, then you have your proper old BMW nut cases, and then at the top of the tree you will have Mr. Dino RS. Never have I met personally someone with this much adoration for the humble german car. Since Dino started to drive, he has adopted several BMWs in his life. Most of them are old, but the build journal was written well in Dino’s hand.

As for where Dino’s heart lies, it is a bit hard to nail down, but he’s happy to admit that BMWs came as his first love. In the hunt for his first classic car at that time, it was German steel that stole his passion. He said to us that, ” I grew up on the back seat of a BMW,” says Dino. “Both of my parents fall in love as well with BMW. So lots of memories there. “I figured that some of the people underestimate the ability to survive with an old European cars, but I had none, none big issues to taking care of.” said Dino.

One of his projects began with this flawless BMW 520i E12 1977 Euro Spec version. Dino found this car at the first time still in pretty good shape, and without a doubt, he brought this car once negotiation price were met. If we talking about this sedan, when it was launched in 1970s, the 5-Series was tasked with building on the success of the legendary ‘Neue-Klasse’ saloons that did so much to cement BMW as a top-line motor manufacturer. It’s fair to say that it not only met those expectations but went on to carve a prosperous future for the German company. It was so successful that the current models really are direct descendent.

You can see on this page, Dino has tackled every upgrade and modification himself – especially when it comes to the wheels choice. And I’m not talking about mundane jobs here, but the sort of custom ideas that has turned his E12 into one of the coolest BMW E12 alive on the streets of Jakarta-Indonesia. In her 2nd years since, this lady has received numerous levels of attention, as Dino’s interest shift from this car to another classic german cars that he owned as well.

In the early years, Dino did a total body restorations while his eyes never closed on finding the rare and factory additional body kit on internet. Dino took the steps to bought and install the front add-on lips specially made for E12 back then. One the parts on this E12 that was uber rare is the BBS trunk spoiler that again, is specially made for this car is installed on this green E12.

The suspension received another round of changes. The first idea was to install an air suspension, but Dino said that the bag hits the inner fender though. But his desire to got a tucked wheels inside with mild drops was unstoppable. This time in the form of shortened strut housings, custom springs, and taller rear shock mounts, all helping to adjust suspension lengths to lowering the car without hassles on ride quality.

The wheels on this E12 are absolutely beauties; a set of BBS RS 212 which upconverted from 17 inch to 18×8.5 fronts and 18×9.5 rears, in low offsets – filling out the E112’s guards and tucked nicely, with a bit of a pulled and rolled. The wheels are absolutely transformed the whole look of the car, and other people’s perspectives on the car and what it represents. Gold faces, slanted lips, decent drops are definitely win, win, and win.

Another big step that being taken to this car was the Stromberg Double carburetors on the engine side, along with the upgrades on ignition and exhaust system, Dino was able to meet great power gains in his E12 compared to stock power.

As Dino lived in the car to and from work and on the weekends, the decision to make things a bit more comfortable for himself and passengers was made without sacrificing his dreams on this E12. The original front seat were taken out and changed to pristine Recaro LS 81 classic seats while the door trims still untouched, but it’s definitely matched perfectly with the presence of Recaros. The excitement of hunting season was generating its result to Dino that obtained the classic BBS 3-spokes steering wheels for his lady. After all, with the car in a raised position, its aesthetic is reserved and classic, the Dino’s proper taste provides an era-correct look to an otherwise understated car.

In our eyes personally, Dino has shown its shines and loves to this car. As one of only a few who have taken an E12 down the path he has, his car perfectly represents the ways that how wheels, originality, passion, and endless efforts can accentuate an otherwise flawless car. And to cap it all off, Dino tells us that he has bagged 7-Series that still being restored which we hope that he can share with us in the future. Why? Because it’s simply that we’re eager to say the least. If you ask us, more people now should get into this style of modification with their old school ladies – it’s vintage perfection.

Meet the legend: Benny’s E34 M5

We all love cars, even when they’re working or not in sometimes, but it’s pretty rare today to come across someone for whom their car really is so memorable and everything to them. Benny is one such man. His passion to bought back this car and saved her life for us personally is unrivalled in anyone we’ve ever met, and it’s this raw, unbridled passion for what was once a humble E34 M5 that has driven him to built one of the finest example out here in Australia, and we believe so. Subtlety goes a long way these days, the less-is-more approach often saying way more than ostentation and wackiness ever could.

When I met Benny couple weeks ago, he said about the ethos of his build, you see – it’s not just a case of modifying and optimising, it’s effectively renewing everything that could be renewed in order to make the car stand out among the best, indeed and agreed so, as close to a “new” E34 M5 as is possible given current parts availability.The totality of Benny and his father shown up when they ordered parts and billed by thousand of dollars directly to BMW Germany, they really went all-out when build this car. To be honest, Benny and his father had done a pretty damn fine job, wouldn;t you say? The subtlety of Macao Blue hue adds to the stealthy ethos of the build, and it’s pleasantly old-school too, being the car’s original paint.

And once it was all buffed to perfection, the M-Parallel set of wheels with 18×9-9.5 was installed to give another OEM look of this old lady. Nowadays, a lot of people can get an inspiration from million of sources. From how you create a perfect stance-weapon, until the references of how to build a fast cars. But I felt here Benny is an interesting man – passionate, highly appraised on OEM style, intense, but a really nice guy and one with more than a few stories to tell in behind of this car. Maybe 1 or 2 years are sufficient enough for someone out there to earn reputation on the street backed up with their 4 digit wheels, a huge compressor to lift you up to the moon, and fancy paint as well, but for man like Benny, renewed everything is much more appreciable for him.

Perhaps some you could ask of any BMW “M5” enthusiast with the question “what is the best M5 BMW has ever produced” and probably you will get a different answer from each one. From a favorable old M5 like E28, until the last 2014 line of F10 M5, that’s why for his reason alone, I don’t even like to ask the question as I don’t think there is a conclusive answer. However, personally said, I think there is a strong argument in inferring that the most unique M5 BMW ever produced is the E34 M5. The genuine reason in our opinion was the E34 was the last 5 series to feature that classic BMW 5 series design. Specifically, the E34 5 series featured round headlamps, a classic “boxy” BMW front end, and the interior is decorated with those classic European climate control levers and dials. After the E34 finished it’s production, both the interior and exterior design of the 5 series changed forever.

Powered by a development of the thoroughbred 3.8-litre DOHC straight-six first seen in the M1 supercar, the E34 M5 arrived in late 89’s in Australia, but Benny said that his father imported this left-hadn-drive car direct from Germany. It was instantly sought-after by Benny and his father for its combination of prestige, power (232kW at 6900rpm) and outstandingly pure, six individual throttle, rear-driven dynamics. Coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox, the performance figures still impressed us by today. Actually in our point of view, the E34 doesn’t feel quite as threadable as the E28 and its ride, while comfortable, is appreciably firmer. But with the tauter chassis and reduced body roll comes more outright grip and you have to try harder to unstick the rear end.

By keeping all concept in the family, Benny and his father set about refreshing and brought them back to the original one. “Firstly we started with the interior,” Benny said. “The seats themselves were retrimmed with the original Alcantara’s suede material that was also imported directly from Germany.” This M5 interior have lovely solidity about pure breed performance car, and details such as the steering position, semi-race seat, the instruments, speak of a time of uncluttered simplicity and performance.

All of those gorgeous and passionate touches, with the right car, that’s pretty much all you need to stand out – no sense in changing things excessively for the sake of social media reputation. Benny’s E34 M5 takes a near perfect package and pretends to brought back this beast in her condition as should be. It’s a success, wouldn’t you say?

It was vintage when comes with age and experience: Uwie’s Rabbit.

It’s very demanding builds such as this vintage rabbit. What started off as literally a huge piece of rusty metal turned into one of the cleanest stanced lady around rides that we have featured before. Me and Alwafi last time would go as far as saying that it’s one of the cleanest Rabbit’s we’ve ever seen in Jakarta-Indonesia. Yes it could be because it looks amazing or perhaps it’s because of seeing just how far it has come since Uwie started the build. It’s our pleasure to share this beautiful MK1 4 door “Rabbit” with you. You would surprise if guys.



We had proper photoshoot in nearby SCBD Sudirman-Jakarta. Uwie came with his lovely girlfriend together with this clean creamy rabbit.



Uwie had restored this body for approximately a year before, and several exterior parts such as LS type front bumper, LS type wheelarch, USDM type sidemarker, and so on.


The best thing in this sexy lady is a set of Schmidt TH-Line Cup with 15×7″ at front, and 8″ width at rear. This set probably a pioneer of 4 lugs Schmidt TH-Line in Indonesia.


This wheels never go wrong with any kind of platforms, fitments, and colors. Very nice dude!!!







On the interior side, I saw several original parts are still in very good condition. But Uwie changed the original steering wheel with Nardi, along with VW Performance shift knob. This mods are truly increased the inner beauty of this lady.








Just like we always say, less is more. Big shout out to Uwie and his fanatic golf mk1 friends for making this happen and we hope that this slammed ol’ thing inspires some of you in here guys.


Ladies meet up: Classic VW’s Brotherhood

Here is a fun informal brotherhood’s meet up under our radar couple of days ago. It’s rather small if you want to talk quantity, but rest assured there were really cool classic volkswagen rides there. More importantly, it’s all about catching up with friends and just talking cars with people you have so much in common with. Just a few weeks ago the guys from classic VW community brought out about 10 cars to the Kebayoran Baru-Jakarta. These cars below are proudly made by the classic enthusiasts from Indonesia. Basically, most of the scenery last time are filled under MK1 Golf generation. Several cars such as the creamy-paint MK1 are playing with stance style too. Slammed with the first Schmidt 4×100 lugs in Indonesia, then very rare OZ Turbo are fitted in 2 doors MK1.  A lot of VW’s treasure been gathered together in same passion. Our friend Alwafi stopped by to take a few photos for all of you guys.

Patience is passion tamed: Deo’s 76 Mini

In England, the Mini is just such a car. Like the Volkswagen Beetle, the Mini’s design barely changed at all in the 40 years it was in production. Then, in 2000, the Mini transformed into the MINI Cooper, a car that promises to follow in the footsteps of the original Mini.


Some people pretend to buy a newer model of Mini when they have some money on their accounts. But people like Deo Dominico is very patience and pushed down his feeling to owned the newer model because he was very fanatic and enthusiast with a classic mini.


For Deo, he was very happy when his parents accept his request to own this classic lady. And after that moment, Deo starts to searching a very good basic of Mini in Jakarta. But fortunately, he found this treasure in Bandung-Indonesia area.


Deo was very happy. Finally he found his passions along with Mini and all apparels and die-cast that he have in his room become a real starts from a month ago when drove this Mini back home.






Although most enthusiast love the futuristic and functional design of modern cars, many are equally intrigued by the clean simplicity of a classic car. Some of us want high horse power and sharp turns while others enjoy a calm quiet cruise. This extremely beautiful and original Mini Cooper isn’t meant to be driven on a track or being as a stance car, but that doesn’t mean it cant be a trophy car, at least for himself.





Deo has swapped his old carburetor 76′ engine with the 92′ injection engine from Mini Rover. This modification on engine sector has commonly done by other Mini enthusiasts when modified his classic Mini.






The interior theme is one of the most interesting details on this lady. He overlayed the seat with a leopard’s coat to gives him an fancy look in interior side.




I’ve made a short documentary film that based on Deo’s true story with his girl Fany when cruising with this Mini. On that video, we can see that how big is Deo’s love to his classic Mini.
