A beautiful legacy: Timothy’s Mercedes Benz W123 200E on Riddler wheels

We are always interested to hear how someone got into a cars is no exception. Especially that if we hearing how people first got interested in classic’s. It’s a pretty good chance that there is a nice story involved into their builds. For some it may be because of their first ride in one, perhaps the exterior of a certain model, the sexy growl from the tail pipes or the inheritance cars that owned by someone special within their families. For Timothy though, the story has started when he visits his family in Cirebon-Indonesia back then.

Timothy wasn’t necessarily an enthusiast from the get-go, but that eventually changed. The 1983 200E Mercedes Benz W123 you guys see in this article was originally his lovely grandfather’s car. It was their family’s first benz and Timothy admits that while he didn’t really care for it at first, but once his grandfather passed away, it quickly grew on him to taking care of this car.

His grandma, approximately 1.5 years after his husband passed, she asked Timothy if he able to taking care of this car. Without doubt, he agreed to bring this lady with him and the restoration process began. At that time, the condition of this car was alarming. Rusts everywhere and far from a “pristine” word. Timothy brought this car to Akasia garage and ordered them to bring back this car to its glory. To accomodate the lowrider look that Timothy always dreaming of, he ordered a custom air suspension from Akasia garage to achieve the looks that you can adore it in this article.

Just as he’s tinkered with the height toward the air supension system, he’s gone through numerous sets of wheels too. The current set is Riddler in 17 x 7″ et 0(F); 17 x 9.5″ et -5 (R). The chrome centers and high polished lips strengthen the overall looks on this beauty lady.

While Timothy is not sure what’s next for the future, we are sure that his car has been added to that list of well-done W123’s on your mind.

Euro Retro Enthusiasts’s meet proved a big success in it’s first showed up, so it came no surprise when we heard that they made a plan to gather again for it’s second meet up along with us on the beautiful place at BSD City. We caught up with one of the organiser, Mr. Indra, to see how this meet up went down. “For this second family meet-up, we arranged a great spot on the afternoon, we have also got new upcoming members, and the main purpose was meet and greet on this merciful Ramadhan Month, and hopefully we can making it a really big hit as a new group of enthusiasts in Indonesia.

Well, it’s because we either feel bad or just massively embarrassed about liking the thing in question. When you really think about it, it’s just peer pressure, that rocky issue we thought we left in the childhood. Mr. Indragoin, the owner of this stand-out W140 explained” I think people just get bullied into keeping or modifying their car in a certain way.” The owner of this beauty lady never really been to get deeper into social media or forum before. He said the netizens are really quick to tell you what you can and can’t do to particular modern models. Everyone has their own different taste. When Indra searching for a hope to find an immaculate W140 in Indonesia, he was never spinning around his dream onto different platforms such BMW, Jags, etcs. When he found this lady in overall 9/10 condition, the step one he did into this project was to strip and clean it. We all dream of owning that perfect, rust-free classic but the chances of finding “the one” are too slim and far from perfect.

Indra found this S320 built up in very good condition. Some sort of cool interior features like moonroof, cool box, and built up climate control air-con panel been installed previously. All mechanical works perfectly fine.

We’re constantly wanting the newest and latest innovation, or something unusual that will comes out coincided with several boring stuffs. Simply said, innovation is generally a good thing as it means moving forward. The Indonesian car scene certainly thrives on progression, innovation and publications. We are striving to bring the features on what’s new or on something interesting. When it comes to the classic culture, there is lots of innovation going on. As classic US style becomes significantly popular, Mr. Bey with his infallible Mercedes Benz W114 is working hard to innovate its own take on the art of classic-sedan customization and standing on top.

After we finished all duties to captured a car’s heaven in Cargasm meetup, we decided to calling Bey and asked him to be featured as well.

Basically the classic Mercedes Benz W114 is an interesting platform to work with. Its style lends itself to a diverse selection of potential directions. Bey from ASALVO autoclub became quite familiar with the concept of hard work during the build process of his 1975 Mercedes Benz W114. With a helps from FA Autoworks-Bandung, this garage said that Bey’s W114 was in good shape, but still requiring considerable attention before it could be deemed roadworthy. Due to the fancy plans for the vehicle, Bey asked Franky, the owner of FA  Autoworks  to repaint her lady with Orange color from Sikkens. Needless to say, actually his plan did not fit the definition of what one would call a ‘factory restoration’ in term of paint, but definitely this classy Benz easily recognized as timeless roadstar with this looks.

Despite the clean, factory appearance of the Benz, the exterior of this classic W114 has been modified extensively as well. The front and rear lightsis converted to one from a American W114 model for an updated look. An almost brand new all body lists, seals, and chrome bumpers is also present, adding strength to the overall looks of her. In the interior side, Bey contrived to let them in original condition. Seemed Bey wants to shown up his fancy side only on the exterior, nothing in interior then. When it comes to FA Autoworks, the interior side is far from perfect condition, with torn leather, dirty untidy panels, and the interior in  a bit disarray, it was time for a complete restoration inside the cabin. The dash was removed and wrapped with black leather as the instrument panel cable was also repaired. Details ranging from the steering wheel to the switches were polished,painted, and re-wrapped to achieve a comfort and classic looks. Like magic, an old ratty interior soon became one that emanated with craftsmanship and Bey was able to focus on the fitment and wheels option for his lady.

Determining the best wheel offset to produce a certain look is not important for this kind of car, however, sometimes Bey put more efforts to find the best looks of an old school wheels rather than addressing on choosing the big negative offset. In order to attain his desired wheel, a Rial Mesh Type A wheels with 16×8″ size all around chosen to filled all guards. Lastly said, Bey would like to express thanks to FA Autoworks, Cargasm friends, and ASALVO autoclub for all their workmanship and support throughout the years. In essence, the result is much better than his expectation. Bey built this W114 with the intentions to change the negative stigma about an old fashioned people that sometimes follows the W114 and to change everyone’s opinion of this car. We feel Bey succeeded, and we love that people are taking notice to his car and it’s getting the attention it deserves.

 

A Farewell Ride: Danur’s OZ MAE W210

​It’s both exciting and sore our heart at once we knew that he will leaving off Indonesia to United States for continuing his higher degree study. Practically said, this W210 will be back to her original form and waiting for someone who willing to take care of her. For sure, this W210 is one of the best example of OEM+ mods that a perfect wheels could draw the people’s attention. These days, many people are attempting to stand out by chasing the lowest offsets, the craziest stretch, or the biggest drop; sometimes it’s easy to stand out by creating a clean OEM ride that can be appreciated for its simplicity and functionality. When it comes to this Mercedes Benz W210, the wheels are not worth more than the car, it also won’t beat many “opponents” off on the scene, and it is not going to cause mass delays banging a necessary u-turn at a speed bump because its too low. But it will absolutely turn heads , and it will remain classy for years to come. This is what we believed.

It is really interesting what a good drop can be a head turner without touching any sectors that makes your car looks weird and absurd. Danur has supplied his beauty with simple lowering suspension setup at front and rear in order to get it sitting just right. Tucked under those wheel arches are the legendary OZ MAE at 19×9 inch at front, and 19×11 inch at rear wheels. The rest of the exterior was cleaned up with a nice original OEM color which added higher value for our perception. On interior side, Danur changed the manual climate switch into digital OEM one. He also added an OEM Avantgarde Sun Blind to add more classy impressions on this W210.

These memorable afternoon for us with him will ended in a set of photos and videos, the moment when we first met him with his previous ride W202, every laughed that we shared together with him, and his passion to stay with only one platform. We will stash them in our memory, it’s time to say good bye to the perfectionist, Mr Danur. It takes hard work to create a vehicle that does not cater to the masses, and by that I mean putting in the effort to build something that does not simply follow the trends. Trust me guys, playing an OEM+ mods would still get respect; and that right there is the recipe for a good build.
